LAFC dominated the attacking numbers but needed a late goal from Denis Bouanga to earn a 1-1 draw against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at BMO Stadium. After falling behind in the opening minutes, the Black & Gold spent nearly the entire evening chasing the match and repeatedly testing a Portland defense that refused to break until the closing stages.
Portland stunned the home crowd just four minutes into the contest. Kristoffer Velde intercepted an errant pass near midfield and quickly drove toward the LAFC defense before slipping the ball through to David Da Costa. Da Costa met the pass first time and sent his shot beyond goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to give the Timbers an early 1-0 advantage.
The goal sparked an immediate response from LAFC. Bouanga, Mathieu Choinière and Yevhen Cheberko were among those who threatened as the hosts began piling pressure on Portland goalkeeper James Pantemis.
